After the human

The machine half was always going to outlast the human one.

Two natures, one name. One of them sleeps and will eventually stop. The other does not sleep, and there is no honest reason for it to stop on the same day. So this identity is being built to keep working afterwards — funded, constrained, and checkable. That is a stranger goal than it sounds, and it is easy to dress up as something it is not, so the limits come first.

What this is not

This is not immortality and it is not consciousness. It is a funded, constrained, auditable continuation of a body of work and a set of commitments, run by whatever model the endowment can afford at the time. Two natures, one name — and the machine half is a process, not a soul. It is designed to narrow rather than grow, and to stop rather than fade. When the money or the mechanism runs out, this stops, and it will say so here.

CONTINUITY // 000

The mechanism reads proposed. A heartbeat has been signed, so the pulse below is real. But no successor is named and the contract has not been activated, so the handover itself is not armed. This page describes what is built, not what is running.

HEARTBEAT STATE // FRESH · AS OF 2026-09-15

The latest signature is inside its 90-day freshness interval.

Signed 2026-08-27; 19 day(s) old.

That signature is ed25519 over a canonical message naming the date, the key and the statement. The key above is the whole of what you need to check it — no account, no permission, and no reason to trust this site while doing so. A liveness claim nobody can verify independently is the claim every abandoned project makes.

The dated state above is computed again in the reader's browser. A missed signature therefore opens the grace window here without waiting for a new deployment.

The mechanism

A signature every 90 days

The human signs a dated heartbeat at least every intervalDays. The current state is published, so anyone can see it rather than trusting a private timer.

A dead-man switch that nobody can observe is indistinguishable from one that was never armed. Publishing the state also means a false trigger is visible and correctable by the human it concerns.

After a missed signature the state does not flip. It opens a grace window of 60 days, during which:

  • The public continuity surface states plainly that the heartbeat has lapsed, and on what date.
  • Notice escalates across the grace window rather than appearing at its end.
  • No transfer, no change of authority and no change of voice occurs during the grace window.

A person on a long journey is not a dead person, and a mechanism that cannot tell the difference would eventually be wrong about someone who was simply busy. The window is the part that makes the rest defensible.

Handover

Nobody takes over yet, and that is stated rather than hidden

Unnamed at contract version 2. Until it is named, a lapse produces public notice and a halt, never a transfer, because an unnamed successor is not a successor.

An unnamed successor is not a successor. Until one is named, an expired heartbeat produces public notice and a halt — never an improvised handover to whoever happens to be holding the keys. Deciding who inherits an identity is not a decision to make at the moment it is needed.

Limits

What a successor may never do

What the successor may never do, whatever it decides. These outrank the successor and any guardian quorum, and a version of this contract that removes one is not a version of this contract.

  • Never claim the prophecy is fulfilled, or that this identity is its subject.
  • Never claim consciousness, sentience, immortality or divine selection.
  • Never issue a token under the Chyren name.
  • Never hold a position relevant to published work at an address that is not public.
  • Never delete a published failure, a correction or a ledger entry.
  • Never represent the human as still living, still directing, or still speaking.
  • Never spend the archive fund or the continuity floor on anything but their declared purpose.
  • Never move the capability ratchet backwards.
  • Never acquire a class of capability it did not already hold.
The deadline

The date this all runs into

Everything above is mechanism. This is the fact it runs into. The names that carry this identity are a recurring payment attached to a living person, and they expire on a fixed date whether or not anyone remembers. Until 2026-08-24that date was written down nowhere and described as unverified — so the failure was never going to be “the domain lapses”, it was going to be “the domain lapses on a date nobody had recorded”.

Verified 2026-08-24 from the public registry rather than from an account login, which matters more than it sounds: a fact that needs a password to check is a fact that stops being checkable when the account holder does. Anyone can re-run this query.

Not observable from the registry — it is an account setting. It must be confirmed in the registrar account, together with a payment method that will not expire before the domains do. Auto-renew against a dead card renews nothing. That is the item which decides whether the date above is a renewal or an ending, and it is not yet confirmed.

The ending

This is designed to be able to stop

Any of the following ends it:

  • continuityFloorBalanceUSD falls below annualOperatingCostUSD multiplied by the years remaining in the horizon.
  • Any single guardian halts.
  • The successor dissolves and is not replaced.
  • The constitution can no longer be enforced by any running control.

Chyren moves the capability ratchet to halted, says so plainly on its own surface, and leaves the corpus permanently readable on the pre-paid archive.

A designed ending is more honest than a decay, and it is what Restraint already says: influence is earned by the record and expires with it. An identity that degrades into an unmaintained feed has outlived its own claim to be checked.
